Organizing your closet, organizing your home

When you think about it, organizing your home takes a lot of patience and persistence. Once you start organizing you don't want to stop until you are done. To be organized, you must first find a place for all of your clutter. It may be clothes, dishes, throws, or clothes. It doesn't matter how organized your are, the closet is one of the best places to organize because you can put almost anything in your closet to keep until you need it. The closets in your home can be a place to throw things in or it can be a place to place things in neatly.

The common organizational tool is to sort items by type. You can either have casual every day items or not used often items. You can also sort items by season or by room. Say for instance you have living room decor with throw pillows, candles, pictures, and more. You may have certain seasonal items that you cannot display all year long. Obviously you have to sort through them all. It is best to sort them by winter, fall, summer, and spring. When you sort by season, you can place everything in a box for each season and label the box or color the box so you know right from the start what you are looking for.

You should have adequate lighting. You should be able to see everything at a glance when you turn on the lights. If the single ceiling light is not giving you enough visibility, you can additional lighting in strategic places - like on the shelves where you put your most commonly used items. If you still find it hard to see, schedule a day wherein you take everything out and paint the inside of your closet white. You can take this opportunity to catalog everything as you put them back in.

There are times that you feel lazy to do cleanup. Don't procrastinate! Organize your closet now, or have small clutter turn into an unmanageable mess in a matter of days. A good idea is to have a place for something before you even think of buying it. Then, when you take it home, place it there as soon as you take it out of the shopping bag.

You should emphasize your closet from the outside. An effective way to do this is by the use of a simple area rug. Modern rugs have interesting designs and a variety of shapes to fit in almost any space and create almost any effect you desire. You just have to give a little effort in finding the right one. By paying attention to the details, you gain to have better functionality out of your organized closet.

You can place works of art near or around your closet to clearly mark it. If you are into stenciling or painting, you can take care of a plain-looking closet door and add more life into a room. Make use of your favorite subject-matter: angels, flowers, unicorns, whatever may catch your fancy to personalize this part of the house that contains your most cherished possessions.
